Hey there! I have some information regarding my great-great-grandmother Grace Masterton . She was born 19 Nov 1853 in Edinburgh and died 4 Nov 1941 in Mississippi, USA
I updated her find-a-grave page with a photo today and also added some very old ones I have for other Mastertons listed on your website that can be found here . One includes a photo of Alexander Masterton who you have a short writeup on in front of his house at 85. St. John Road.
The reason she vanishes from record in Scotland is this (as told by my uncle): Dr. Pou's 1st wife Ada West passed away and because she and Grace Masterton were friends previously in Scotland he wrote to her to tell her of her friend's passing. They continued their correspondence until he eventually proposed marriage. She came to America with her brother Alexander who was prepared to take her back home if things weren't satisfactory. Well everything went well and they were married in Birmingham, Alabama. They went on to live in Waynesboro, Mississippi. She actually returned to Scotland in 1896 to have their child, Annie Alexandra Masterton Pou, and remained there for 3-4 years and Dr. Pou had to go retrieve her.
I recently ordered the birth certificate of Annie Alexandra Masterton Pou (my great-grandmother) from the Scotlands People website. Pretty cool! Many of my family members have visited the family's former home of 4 Windsor Street in Edinburgh. It is now a bed and breakfast. My parents visited Scotland last year and were able to stop by Piershill Cemetery where many of my Mastertons are buried so I have added them to find-a-grave.
Thank you for all the information you have shared on your website. It has been an amazing resource!
