    Helen Masterton was the mother of John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir, tha famous novelist and politician who served as Governor General of Canada.

    31 Mastertons were killed fighting "the war to end all wars".
1922 
  • 13 Jul 1922—13 Jul 1922: Plean Pit Disaster
    John Masterton, HM Inspector of Mines, visited the Plean Colliery after an explosion killed 12 men, and reported on the cause.

  • 1 Sep 1939—14 Aug 1945: Second World War
    Seven Mastertons lost their lives in the Second World War, including Adelaide Masterton, killed by a V1 flying bomb in the Guards Chapel, London on 18 June 1944.
