    From 1620's till American Independence, 'transportation' was used in lieu of imprisonment or execution for many convicts, including Christian Masterton of Edinburgh, sent to the American colonies as a whore.

  • 22 Jun 1679—22 Jun 1679: The Battle of Bothwell Brig
    William Masterton of Lanark gave evidence against covenanter rebel prisoners after the Battle of Bothwell Brig.

  • 22 Jul 1680—11 Jun 1690: "Society Men"
    In 1690 Adam Masterton of Grange petitioned for the restoration of lands to John Philip, nephew of a minister imprisoned on the Bass Rock in 1683, probably as one of the covenanting ministers, or 'Society Men', imprisoned during the 'Killing Time'.

  • 20 May 1685—30 Jun 1685: The Argyll Rising
    In 1685, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll, joined forces with the Monmouth Rebellion against James II, insitgating a short-lived rising in Scotland. William Masterton of Culross was a sailor caught up in the Earl's failed attempt, either voluntarily or pressed.
