Mastertons at War
Like any family living through periods when their countries went to war, a number of Mastertons fought in conflicts across the world. Some never returned. These pages are dedicated to those who fought and died fulfilling their duty to their country.
South Africa (Boer War)
The Roll of Honour
Two Mastertons are known to have been killed in the Boer War. One from Australia and the other recorded on the Edinburgh South Africa (Boer War) Black Watch War Memorial in Market Street.
- Masterton Adam. Private. 2nd Battalion The Royal Highlanders (Black Watch). Killed in action or died of wounds at Magersfontein, 11 December 1899.
- Masterton John Thomas, Private, Third (Queensland Mounted Infantry) Contingent of Australian Forces. Severely wounded at Eland's River 6 August 1900; Died of wounds at Krugersdorp 11th September 1900.
